The overarching theme is the slogan "from read to write", i.e. how we can use the reading of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to utilize nucleic acids and in particular antisense oligonucleotides for precision therapies of genetic diseases. There is a strong focus on genetic developmental disorders and epilepsies. We are working on new methods of DNA and RNA analysis to identify "treatable genetic variants" and on the establishment of cellular models to develop and validate nucleic acid therapies. This translational research requires a very close link to clinical care and we therefore work closely with strong clinical partners - both at ZSE TUM and outside - so that patients can benefit from these therapies.
